Georg Friedrich Lienemann - Born on June 5, 1948 at the Evangelishes Krankenhaus Oldenburg, in Oldenburg.

Ofenerfelder Krug - a Meeting Haus, Hotel, Ball Room, Restaurant and Tavern for the Ofenerfelder area. Famous for hosting the Slow Smoking Club, Sports Associations and all other events in the area. Social Center for the Platt Speaking Community for close to 100 Years.




My mother (born Eva Maria Schnell in Marienburg, East Prussia) was the daughter of a Prussian Cavalry Officer, her family had fled from the advancing Russian troops in 1945. Traveling on one of the last ships from Danzig (now known as Gdansk) to Schleswig Holstein. After a stay in Schleswig Holstein, the family moved to a farmhouse, operating as a Prussian Refugee Center, in Ofenerfeld, Oldenburg, the long time home of my father's family. 

My father (born Georg Lienemann in Ofenerfeld) was at the end of the war an Engineering Student and avid sailplane pilot. Since he was relatively young and attending engineering university, he was spared from the front and spent the last years of the war in neighboring Holland, working at a desk job and flying sailplanes in his spare time. 

My paternal Grandfather operated a very popular "Gasthaus" (hotel, feed store, grocery store, post office, ballroom, etc.) known as the Ofenerfelder Krug, it was the social center of the local farming community and also hosted the Pfeiffen Club (Slow Smoking Pipe Club) and other family and sports activity celebrations. There was always a few tables full of locals celebrating something.

I assume that my parents met sometime in 1947, because I was born in June of 1948.

Bangkok to Chiang Mai - by Train

October 13, 2024 - I am finally back (to stay?) in Chiang Mai It seems that I always end up back in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. No matter where I have been in between, these are the two places I feel the most like I am back home. My first trip to Chiang Mai was by automobile, from Bangkok to the North in one very long day and night. Through the Rice fields, many small town, and the steep mountain passes that were at times difficult to navigate because of slow moving trucks, and the occasional small herd of elephants.  Since those days I have made the trip so many times, in so many different vehicles and so many different routes, that it is difficult to remember them all, but my favorite is still the all-night train ride from Bangkok to Chiang Mai Station. Sometimes taking the 2nd Class Sleeper, but most of then the 2nd Class or even 3rd Class Seat, so I can easily take photos out the window on the way.

January 2023 - Back in Siem Reap, Cambodia

July 1, 2022 - After Covid - Finally Leaving Laos (by Bicycle), to return to Chiang Mai, Thailand On July 1 2022, I crossed the bridge over the Mekong River on my bicycle, from Vientiane, Laos to Nong Khai, Thailand. All restrictions had officially been canceled on that day, and as an American Passport holder, I was allowed to enter Thailand, without any Covid tests (I had proof of 3 Covid Vaccinations).  I was also allowed to enter the country (for 30 days) without applying for a Visa. There was some confusion at the border, because they were not expecting a bicycle to cross the bridge. Normally people from Laos cross over the bridge on a bus, but the bus would not take my bicycle, so I was told to just ride across the bridge. Thailand immigration was not aware of my arrival though, so it took some time and a fairly comical interrogation (they were concerned that I was smuggling my bicycle into the country, and might sell it without paying tax), before I was allowed to enter Thail...
